Kabetogama-Namakan Fishing Report
Some spring-like temperatures are beginning to be the
norm here, our snow is all but gone, snow banks, wooded areas and
full shade are the only areas holding snow.
The lake surface stiffens up at night and daytimes the
lake surface softens with standing water.
Ice thickness is variable throughout Kab and Namakan
ranging from 28” to 40” and we appear to lose ice each day.
As of this weekend the walleye season closed on all
lakes inland and border till the Spring Opener, May 10th.
Folks seeking crappies have a tough going due to fast
changing ice conditions. Last reports were spotty with some action
happening in some of the Spring crappie holes.
Extreme caution should be taken if you venture out on
the ice, some open pockets of water exist just as pressure ridges do
in the winter.
Ice out dates or hunches welcome, this writer has
chosen May 8, 2014. Sure hope I’m spot on or close.
